scared

Since Sunday Boston brings up things that are "scary". We went to Danny's parents house for dinner and Boston found a pumpkin bucket that he fell in love with so much that he carried it around with him all evening. When Danny's brother Aaron discovered a Halloween mask in it he put it on to see what Boston would do.

He freaked out! From down in the basement I heard a shriek and lot of crying. Aaron felt terrible. The only way we could get Boston to calm down was to bring in the only element of humor he understands.

"Aaron silly?" he'll say whenever he feels scared.

Because he says it so often I'm starting to wonder if he always felt this way but never knew how to express it.

Things that have been described as scary:

Napkins
Daddy "bear" (Danny growled like a bear when he was chasing Boston around)
Bruce (the shark from Finding Nemo)

Boston also finds his own way to resolve the situation with a simple phrase of bravery: "Bye, scary." I'm sure he'll recover. :)

  1. Now that is probably one of the most effective techniques I have come accross to date. Adults are so intent on putting labels on people or things that they can not understand; as if the "label " were some kind of shield against the unfamiliar. Yet Boston simply and plainly calls it as he sees it and equally important dismisses it without much fanfare! A beatiful lesson ineeded. Thank you for saring this timely reminder. Aunt Yvonne
