It’s a toss-up whether Boston will sleep through the night or not. Some nights he’ll wake up and some nights he’ll sleep 12 hours in a row. On the nights when nothing I do gets him to sleep in his own bed, and an hour passes and I start to doze off on my feet in the middle of the night, I surrender and just bring the poor kid back to our bed. Last Saturday night was one such night, and on Sunday morning I awoke to a grinning little boy. With big bright eyes, Boston peered at me and asked in his babble language, “How did you sleep last night?”
I almost fell off the bed.
It was Boston’s first complex sentence that he formulated without help or prompting from me. He’d come up with it himself, conjuring from memory the same question I ask him every morning even though he doesn’t quite understand what it means. Or does he? Hmmm.
November has been a busy month for us. Boston had a final day with his binky. For a few weeks up to then he’d go without it at day care but would always demand it back when we got home. On November 6th he handed the binky to me so he could go play and we didn’t talk about it again. The only lapse we’ve had is when he accidentally discovered that I hid it in the same drawer as the aluminum foil (my bad) and refused to surrender it as he sucked furiously in the living room. “Boston, can I have your binky?” “UH-uh.” I got it back after snack time.
This month also brought us an unexpected surprise. Last month Danny interviewed for and was rejected from a job at PricewaterhouseCoopers, the largest accounting firm in the world. This month they called back to say they liked him so much they opened a position he could fill! He starts on December 5th.
This mixed blessing comes at an interesting time—“interesting” because new jobs come with an orientation. Since PwC holds its trainings in Atlanta, orientation means that Danny will be there—in Atlanta—from Dec 4th to the 7th. That’s during my 37th week of pregnancy, and in the medical world 37 weeks and onward is considered “full term”. I went into labor with Boston during my 38th week. I’m forbidden from doing any walking, running, lifting, jumping, dancing, or any other activity that has ever been known to bring on labor until he returns—just in case. :)
