St. Patrick's Day
I woke up with a sore throat and nothing green to wear. I hadn't slept well the night before, I was feeling stressed at work, and I was hormonal. So when I cried when the doctor asked how I was doing at my regular doctor appointment, she wasn't surprised.
She explained that because I was 80% effaced and 1 cm dilated, if the stress was getting too much, she could induce me as early as the coming Tuesday. By the time I made it back to my car, I'd already decided. I'd come this far and I wasn't about to give in. The baby would come when he was good and ready. The alternative was the status quo. Lots of walking, plenty of water, and staying positive would be my friends to induce labor the old fashioned way.
By the time I made it back to work that afternoon all I wanted was a nap…and to not hit a leprechaun along the way. Danny and I went for a leisurely walk at lunchtime to sort of get things in motion as it were. If I went into labor the coming Saturday, it would be just in time for Spring Break!
Evening
Happy Birthday to you...
I have Institute class on Wednesday nights, but that night I just wasn't feeling it. All I wanted to do was put my feet up and eat some dinner. So what did I do? Danny and I took the dog out for another light walk around the block instead. It was better than watching Wheel of Fortune while Danny did his homework. Since the time for the baby to come was so close, we bought a video camera a few days before and we took it with us on the walk. There were flowers growing and the trees were budding. It was a pretty walk even though I felt stiff and sore.
When we got home I ate some Golden Grahams and sat down to watch Jeopardy while Danny finished up his homework for the night.
I'll take water-is-broken for $1000, Alex! I didn't even get to see the final Jeopardy category. I was excited. Ecstatic! And scared out of my cotton-pickin' mind. I cried. I laughed. And I started shaking uncontrollably. This was it! The day was here! That little baby in there was ready.
Night
You look like a monkey...
I was in labor for 9 hours. With Danny, Star Wars IV (A New Hope), contractions and thoughts of our baby to keep me company, I developed an addiction for ice chips and warm blankets. Without complication or fanfare, at 5:01 in the morning, I met the most beautiful and CUTE baby I have ever seen. And he was mine!!
