Stretchy Pants

My feet are turning into pillows. I can create skiing hills on my legs by holding my fingers against the skin. And no hair elastic is strong enough to tie the button to the hole on my jeans any more. The culprit: Trimester Number Three!

It's January now, though this month we've had everything from sunshine, snow storms, fog, and even some rain. I'm 31 weeks along. And I bought my first pair of maternity pants just this weekend. The sizing system pretty much goes like this: you take your pre-pregnancy size and choose your preferred stretchy band, either under the belly or over the belly. (Calling it "belly" makes me think of "jelly" and therefore Santa Claus...so moving on.) When you try them on, you grip the denim of the pants, pull them up to where you want them to stay, and then roll up the spandex-like material as high as it can go.

After doing the hokey pokey in the dressing room for just half an hour, I now own one pair of maternity pants--and am the most comfortable I have been my entire pregnancy. Better late than never.

Apparently there is a long and not-so-stylish history of maternity pants that women do their best to pretend never happened. But if you walk into any Deseret Industries and locate their Maternity section, you too can witness the horror of the ghost of pants-that-should-never-have-been-made. Flat bottoms, puffy at the top and tight around the ankles, fluorescent blue dyes that didn't age well...the list goes on. After careful investigation I am left with two questions and just can't decide which scenario contributed to this wardrobe catastrophe more: 1) Is the "maternity" part of these poor pants because of the 80's style, or 2) Who in their right mind held onto these pants long enough for me to find them at DI?

Like the number of licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

Danny is good. He started his final semester of the Master's of Accounting Program (affectionately known as the "MAcc") at the University of Utah. As time goes on we get more and more excited for the months ahead. Not only are we having a baby at the end of March, but Danny graduates from the U in May (the end is near!!!!) and starts a job specific to his interest in Auditing at Lake Hill Myers in July (http://www.lhmutah.com/).

But don't be afraid--there are two different kinds of auditors, and he's not the one that will come find you if you forgot to pay your taxes. :)

Boxster is good too. Because I've received so many student ID's from Stevens Henager College in the mail recently, Boxster has been inspired to apply for the Summer term and won't be persuaded otherwise. With any luck he'll qualify for a minority scholarship and can attend his classes online. (After all, how many dogs talk about applying but never really do it?) We'll see what happens.

Cheers.
